Preschool finishes term with games, crafts at winter party
Attendance Week

Preschool students celebrated the holidays and the end of the semester with a party on December 14. With the help of their high school helpers — students enrolled in Karen Schneider's Preschool Child Development classes — the children constructed gingerbread houses, paper plate wreaths, and played a game of holiday Bingo, among other activities. Parents were invited to attend the party, too.
Schneider said the party is the culminating event of the semester. Each of the 16 preschoolers received a memory book put together by their high school teachers that recaps their progress over the 10-week term, including pictures.
This is the seventh year of the preschool program at LCHS. Over the years, Schneider says many siblings have been in and out of the classroom. Some faculty and staff members' children also have been enrolled in the program.
High school students in the Preschool Child Development class often have interest in careers that involve working with children, such as becoming teachers, nurses, or psychologists. The class offers them the opportunity to not only interact with the children but also plan lessons, execute them, and reflect on what went well and what needs to improve. In the spring, students enrolled in Preschool Child Development II make 10-12 visits to Oakland Elementary School to observe and assist teachers in addition to their normal classwork.
Preschool will resume for another 10-week term in the spring.
