LCHS' new principal, Steve Plank, officially joined the Eagle ranks on July 1.
New principal 'syncs up' with the Eagle Way
Steve Plank is all moved into the principal’s office, and items that explain who he is and where he comes from flavor the walls and shelves. All of them have meaning, including the framed pictures of the Wisconsin Northwoods – one of his favorite places – and the painting his wife completed when she was in high school. Harley Davidson novelties sit on his bookshelf. So does a photograph of a bicycle wheel taken by one of his former students as well as his first LCHS decoration – a frame containing creative photographs of each of the letters in “Eagles.” It was a parting gift from his colleagues at Stevenson High School, where he served as the Director of Fine Arts before accepting the principalship at LCHS.
“I feel ready,” said Plank, who officially began the job on July 1 but was preparing well before that. In addition to organizing his office in a manner he hopes is inviting to students, faculty, and parents, he recently spent time reading over the School Improvement Plan and delving into the results of a survey he asked faculty and staff to complete last spring. He also took a six-hour-long tour of the building with the maintenance staff so he is better equipped to solve logistical problems, should they arise, and handle other matters.
Now that he is done “getting synced up,” Plank says he plans to meet with other administrators over the next few weeks to continue planning for the upcoming school year. He still has many names and faces to learn within the building and the school community. Enter the Booster Club, which is planning a meet and greet for Plank in August.
Plank succeeds Jim McKay, who moved into the co-superintendent position alongside former ACHS principal Mike Nekritz on July 1. McKay served as the LCHS principal for four years.
