2008 Veterans Day assembly

November 10 will be a busy day.
The Social Studies Department has organized two highlight events: the first annual Religious Diversity Forum for Global Studies students and a Veterans Day assembly to recognize local military. Additionally, sophomores will take the PLAN test, and seniors will have a class meeting.
About 55 veterans and their guests are expected to attend the third annual Veterans Day assembly, during which attendees will salute all branches of the military and will view a slideshow of military men and women connected to the LCHS community, among other activities.
That morning, freshmen will hear from a dozen religious leaders from a variety of faiths: Islam, Hindu, Jewish, Protestant, Catholic, and Sikh.
"We have always done a unit on Belonging. We teach belonging through the lens of the world religions,” said Rebecca Holst, Social Studies Department chair. "It is fascinating to see the students learn about the basic beliefs of other religions and the impact that stereotypes and myths have on a society. It is our responsibility as teachers to continue to teach and encourage tolerance.”
The PLAN test for sophomores is part of LCHS's program to measure students' progress toward college and career readiness.
If your child is absent on this day, a make-up session is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, November 17 during periods 1-3. Please remind your student to bring their school ID, two #2 pencils and a calculator and to get a good night's sleep and to eat a good brea
kfast in preparation to do their best on the test.
