Five students climbed 2,109 steps to the top of the Willis Tower in Chicago on November 14 to raise money for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Members of "Team Ericksen" raised about $6,000 in donations for the event, called Skyrise Chicago.
Students Forrest and Conner Ericksen, Josh Pohlman, and Shannon and Bradford Ure completed the trek through 103 floors along with 15 other members of "Team Ericksen," comprising members of the Ericksen and Pohlman families. The group decided to become involved after senior Forrest Ericksen spent three months at the RIC recovering from a January 2 snowmobile accident.
Pohlman, who finished first for the team in 26 minutes, said the best part of the experience was seeing all of the people participating. For example, a man with no legs climbed with the help of one artificial leg and two walking sticks, Pohlman said. Many of the racers are former patients at the RIC. |
