Tickets still on sale for Friday, Saturday performances of Annie
A young orphan girl who longs for her parents' return experiences an alternative happy ending in the story of Annie, which opens on the LCHS stage Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
Annie is about an orphan who is invited to spend a week with cold-hearted billionaire Oliver Warbucks in his mansion. His life of luxury is quite the contrast to her life in the miserable orphanage. It does not take long for Warbucks' household staff to adore her, and his heart soon is claimed, too — so much so, that he wants to adopt her.
Conflict ensues when Miss Hannigan, who runs the orphanage, and her accomplices plot to feed their greed by posing as Annie's parents to claim a reward.
Director Bridget Sundin said the play was an appropriate fit for LCHS because it opens up a lot of opportunities for students to get involved. She also appreciates that the story is familiar among students and the school community.
"People love the story. They come into the rehearsal process with at least some knowledge of their character and their character's journey and are excited to get to work," said Sundin. "Something that makes it different is that we have a lot of new talent and new faces, which has been very rewarding."
Other shows are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets cost $5 for students and $7 for adults and will be sold during lunch periods, in the main office, and at the door.
